Designed and led by locals, you’ll discover a place from their perspective, learning about the people and stories that make it unique. Sure, you’ll see the highlights, but you’ll also visit under-the-radar spots and learn a whole lot about a place that’s only possible with someone who lives there.

What sets us apart
What makes our trips so great, anyway? Well, firstly, we’re guided by locals wherever we go. Whether you join us on a food tour in Venice for the day or a two-week trek in Nepal, our guides, leaders and the communities we visit are at the heart of every experience, ready to show you around, share their culture and let you in on things only locals know.
It’s how our trips bring the big sights to life, while also introducing you to the family-run restaurants, hidden bars and community spaces where locals eat, shop and get together – and where your tourism dollars will have a genuinely positive impact.
But it’s also the small group you’ll share the experience with. Our trips attract an open-minded and curious bunch, giving you the chance to make real connections in new places.
Our story
We’ve been taking travellers on locally designed and led day tours since 2009, but our story began long before that.
It all started in 1988 when two friends, Darrel Wade and Geoff Manchester, did an epic overland trip from London to Nairobi. Along the way, they realised that there weren’t many companies out there offering trips that rolled adventure, cultural immersion and hassle-free travel into one. Forget big bus tours, they wanted to see a place through locals' eyes.
And so Intrepid was born.
They ran the very Intrepid trip in 1989 – in Thailand – with just five travellers. Over three decades later, more than 1 million travellers have joined us on adventures all around the world. We’re proud to be the largest purpose-led adventure travel company, with 100+ day trips and 1000+ multi-day trips across all seven continents.
