About Kangaroo Island

Waves rolling into the bay below the rugged headland on Kangaroo Island, Australia

Just a three-hour drive and ferry ride from Adelaide is Kangaroo Island – one of Australia’s top spots to see native wildlife. So much so, it’s even earned the nickname ‘Australia’s Galapagos’. Fur seals, sea lions, dolphins and whales all call these waters home, but hike the bush trails and you may encounter a koala sleeping in a gum tree, an echidna foraging for grubs or, you guessed it, kangaroos (with around 65,000 of them, they’re practically impossible to miss!). The food and wine here are good, too. Dig into local oysters, honey and artisan olive oil, then wash it down with a glass of crisp sauvignon blanc.
