About Kathmandu

Three travellers spinning prayer wheels as they walk around Boudhanath Stupa in Kathmandu

Kathmandu is loud and busy. But despite the constant traffic, there’s a palpable undercurrent of calm, almost like the prayer flags strung across the city are holding it all together. With over 100 ethnic groups in Nepal, one of the coolest things about its capital is how it embraces so many cultures. Hindu and Buddhist shrines share the same courtyards, the same deities are worshipped across religions and festivals bring all faiths together. Explore the pagodas in Durbar Square, spin prayer wheels at Boudhanath Stupa or witness Hindu cremation ceremonies along the Bagmati River. This is a city where spirituality is on full display.
